The Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA), Mr. David K. Mathiu, AIG officially closed the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Sensitisation Training of Trainers (TOT) Course on 19th February 2025 at the Leadership Academy in Ngong.

The three-day course was conducted in partnership with the Gender Violence Recovery Center (GVRC), a centre of excellence involved in the prevention of GBV through awareness and advocacy, as well as the provision of free comprehensive medical and psychological support to survivors.

The course had 26 participants drawn from the National Police Service (NPS), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), and media representatives.

In his remarks, the Commandant underscored the importance of such training, as it aligns with the President’s commitment to eradicating gender-based violence in the country.

Furthermore, the Commandant noted that the training had equipped participants with the requisite skills to effectively investigate and handle matters related to GBV, as well as to pass on such knowledge to other officers at the station level.

In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of GVRC, Ms. Alberta Wambua; the NPS Deputy Director of Training, Dr. Gideon Kirui, CP; the NPLA Dean of Students, Sicily Gatiti, CP; The NPLA Deputy Commandant, Dr. David Muthondeki, SSP; and other senior officers from NPLA and GVRC.
